Greetings from the Guidance Department
Belle Chasse Academy’s Guidance Department is gearing up for another successful school year. Our vision is that all students develop a positive outlook on the future and acquire the attitudes, knowledge and skills necessary to become self-disciplined, self-sufficient, self-directed, compassionate and contributing members of the community. Therefore, we will be conducting guidance lessons throughout the school year as well as special events. All students are able to come and speak with a counselor either through an appointment, a pass from their teacher, or during lunch.
We are committed to assisting students in all areas of social and academic development in addition to providing individual and group counseling. We are extremely sensitive to the particular needs of the military child focusing on the areas of family support during deployments, assisting with transitions and building individual and family strengths. Therefore, we have Admiral’s Club to provide emotional support for students while their immediate family member is away. We will meet once a month during your child’s lunchtime or P.E./Enrichment, so that students will not miss any academic instruction.
Please take a moment to review the groups we will be offering this school year. All participants will be assigned to groups with similarly aged peers and instruction will be done through games and activities in a non-threatening environment. Refer to the Guidance section of the parent handbook for further information about confidentiality.
Social Skills: This group involves improving students’ impulse control, peer relations, appropriate social behaviors and communication skills.
Divorce Group: A support group for children who are going through a divorce process, or are having difficulty dealing with the divorce of parents.
Grief Group: Has your child/student recently experienced a loss or is currently in the grieving process? This group can assist children in learning appropriate ways to cope with the feelings associated with loss. Poetry, music, activities, and journaling will be used.
