Compliance with Acts 837 and 677 of the 2014 Regular Louisiana Legislative Session: Protecting Student Privacy
The Louisiana Department of Education (LDE) and Belle Chasse Academy (the LEA) are committed to protecting student data and continually enhancing data security procedures.
The legislature recently passed legislation, Act 837, which provides for limitations and prohibitions on the collection and sharing of student information.
Additionally, the legislature passed Act 677, which requires that LDE and LEAs publish information on their websites about the sharing of students’ personally identifiable information (PII).

Belle Chasse Academy currently collects and shares student PII with the Louisiana Department of Education who may share PII with the following vendors for the specific purposes delineated in Table A. The LDE is guided by Acts 837 and 677 of 2014 in their contractual agreements and procedures.
Computer Aid, Inc.
Host and maintain SER (students with IEPs)
Collects data from all of the districts in a state and assigns a unique student identifier
Online attendance system for 21st CCLC after school program maintained by Youth Services, and shared with the Louisiana Department of Education
NCES for NAEP, PISA, PIRLS, TIMSS, ICILS

Copies of signed contract addenda ensuring compliance with Act 677 are provided for your information.
Parents of students attending Belle Chasse Academy may register a complaint related to the unauthorized transfer of personally identifiable student information by Belle Chasse Academy by contacting Mr. Michael Rocks, Director of Operations, Risk Management and Review, Belle Chasse Academy. This complaint must be in writing and specify the student's school and grade level, specific student information transferred along with the person/vendor who the complaint is filed against. The complaint must be signed and dated and either emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or mailed c/o Belle Chasse Academy, 100 Fifth Street, NAS/JRB, Belle Chasse, LA 70037.
Parents of eighth grade Students: Please note that Act 837 requires parental consent to share student PII data with the Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance and Board of regents for students to be considered for the Taylor Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS). All parents of eighth graders were provided this form in December. If you wish your child to be eligible for a TOPS award, you must complete this form.
