COVID-19 Update 3/20/2020

Dear BCA Families

In the midst of our COVID-19 uncertainty, one thing remains constant:  We miss seeing your students at Belle Chasse Academy. We are making every effort possible to connect with you, your children, and your family. We find comfort in knowing our community has always been resilient in the midst of uncertainty and we will continue to do so during this time.   Our teachers are excited about the online lessons they have created for the students and are looking forward to corresponding with families through technology.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you need assistance.

Please do expect weekly correspondence from us each Tuesday as we aim to keep you abreast of our response to this fluid situation.

Feeding Schools/Sites Meals are available to all children age 18 and younger regardless of location and income during the extended school closure period. Please visit the following websites to determine the location nearest you.

Keep America Connected Pledge
The FCC Chairman, Ajit Pai, has launched this pledge which many broadband carriers have signed, which will not terminate service because of inability to pay, waive late fees, and open its Wi-Fi hotspots to any American that needs them. Additionally, limited income households can apply for $5 to $10 per month internet access (CenturyLink, Lifeline). Charter Communication will offer free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi access for 60 days to households with K-12 and/or college students who do not already have a subscription. Lastly, Cox Communication is offering the first month free of Connect2Compete Service, and charging $9.95 thereafter.

Learning Expectations
Online lessons through i-Ready for ELA and Math can be accessed through your student’s Clever account. This will commence on March 23. In addition, our teachers are busily preparing additional learning opportunities in all disciplines (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies, Enrichment/PE) to connect with your students via Google Classroom and/or ParentSquare.

Chromebook distribution
Thank you for your response to our ParentSquare survey to let us know your technology needs. We had almost 500 survey respondents. As a result, our team deployed over 150 Chromebooks on March 19th to those families in need.

Special Education Services

Mrs. Roques is in the process of contacting parents of students with IEP’s. While our ability to deliver full service is impacted, please let her know any specific requests or concerns.

IEP Progress updates will be sent to parents from the teacher.

Mental Health Support and Services
For those families that are under the care and guidance of Dr. Phill Stepka, those services will not be interrupted. Dr. Phill has been in contact regarding teleconferencing for his families. Likewise, Mr. Stephen White, Director of Behavioral Supports, and our guidance counselors will be in contact with those students on their caseload. For those families that would like mental health support, we encourage you to contact one of our guidance counselors; they are standing by to offer any support that you and your family need.

School Voicemail
Messages left on school voicemail will be answered/addressed as soon as possible. Expect response time to be within 24 hours during the week; however, more time may elapse on weekends.

We wish you well and stay safe during this time.
